Padel Tennis

The competition shall be held in accordance with the General Rules of the Games and those of the International Padel Federation

The rules are subject to change in case we have too many or too few players.This is the first time that padel tennis is listed among the official disciplines and we kindly ask for flexibility from the captains in case of late changes introduced to improve the experience of the game.

  1. Each team shall consist of 2 players. Mixed teams are encouraged. One of the players will act as captain. 
  2. A match is the best of 3 sets;
  3. A set is won when a team reaches 6 games, always with a minimum advantage of 2 games;
  4. In the case of a tie (draw) at 5 games the players will have to play two more games, to win by 7-5. However, if there is a tie at 6 games a “tie-break” to 7 points will be applied.
  5. All games will be played with Golden Points. On top and in a mixed team match, a male serves to a male.
  6. A player may not play for more than one team;
  7. If a player gets injured and cannot finish, the game is lost. 
  8. If a player is unfit to continue in the tournament, it is possible only upon approval from the sports coordinator to allow a replacement player to be accepted in the interest of the tournament.
  9. Once an encounter has been scheduled, cancellation by either team shall be counted as a victory for the opposing team by default: 6-0, 6-0;
  10. The competition shall consist of a round-robin group stage where each team shall play against every other team. In case of many participating teams (more than 10 teams), the games will be played in two or more groups. Semi-finals shall be played between A1 vs. B2 and A2 vs. B1, and the final shall be played between the resulting winners. To the extent that the venue and time allows, there will be a final round of placement games for all teams. The host organization shall establish the schedule of encounters in accordance with paragraph 11 of the General Rules of the Games. Final group compositions depend on available courts;
  11. In the group stages a point system will be established. 2 points will be assigned to the winning team and 0 points to the losing team.
  12. In case two or more teams end with the same amount of points in the group stages when all matches are played, then the number of sets wonwill be counted between the respective two or more teams that are equal, and decide the placement in the group; in case that is equal as well, the number of games from all the group sets shall be calculated and the one with the highest total score will win. If this is still equal a draw between the respective teams will be done.
  13. At the end of each encounter, the chief umpire shall communicate the results in writing to the discipline coordinator, together with the match records duly signed by the team captains;
  14. The host organization shall provide the services of a chief umpire to record the results and to resolve any dispute that may arise. The chief umpire’s decisions shall be final;
  15. The host organization shall designate an umpire for each match, and for this purpose will call upon players not involved in a match of their own;
  16. The host organization shall provide standard balls.
