General and Discipline Rules of the UN Inter-Agency Games

In every sport the rules constitute an agreement of understanding to succesfully conduct a competition. These rules provide the scope of what is allowed and what is not for both on the court and off. These rules can govern anything from the correct attire and equipment to scorekeeping and determining the different levels of competition. Players and officials all need to abide these same rules.

Players need Rules

The rules for players can vary depending on the sport and the level played at. Clearly defined rules create an even playing field for playing. The Inter-Agency Games base their rules on common international amateur level rules as well as on the Control Commission’s recommendations to provide for a fair and competitive tournament. Players are expected to follow these rules in all regards such as behavior, attendance and attire.

Officials need Rules

Players depend on match officials such as umpires and referees to understand all of the rules of a game. Officials should also understand the signaling and whistling codes for the sports they govern. During games, officials track scores, keep time and resolve in-game discrepancies based on the rules for that game. To help officials, players should also keep updated on game rules.

Preventing Injury

Following the rules support their most important aspect, namely to prevent injuries and ensure safety and fair play. The Rules help making sure correct equipment is in play and that everyone involved in the sport treats their next with dignity and respect.
